Interestingly enough, my lawn mower video actually aired on CNN yesterday. I’m still surprised that people find it that entertaining, but a half-million viewers can’t be wrong!

Automatic lawn mower viral video

Last week I posted a video to YouTube of a dumb experiment I did with my lawn mower:
There’s not much to it, really. I just set a couple of stakes in the middle of the yard and tethered the mower to them. I clamp the self-propel lever in the “on” position, and let the rope wrap around the center pivot, cutting a smaller circle on each lap.
What’s funny is that this video has gone somewhat viral. Between the original YouTube post, a few (authorized) reposts by the Cheezburger network, the video has been viewed well over a quarter million times in the past week. It’s also been posted on facebook profiles 2000+ times as well as making the rounds on Twitter, etc. It never ceases to amaze me what people find amusing! I’ve put WAY more effort into posted content that hasn’t had 1/1000th the public interest.
At any rate, thanks to the Cheezburger Network for originally posting the video! Check out some of the links below, and if you’re anything like me, you’ll get a kick out of the comments!

Transformers Videos

On the eve of the new Transformers movies, I thought I’d post a link to my stop-motion Transformers animation. They’re just some goofy videos some friends and I made, but I spent a while this evening setting up a new video player called WordTube. It uses a Flash video player and really works a lot better than the junk I was using before. When I moved to the new host, the old one broke anyway.
Here are the video pages:
- Transformers Dance (featuring YMCA and the Macarena!)
- Transformers battle video
EDIT: I actually posted a couple of new ones tonight. They aren’t great, but they’re free!
Trick photos posted

Well, I’m quickly running out of backlogged real content to post, so I guess when that’s all gone I have to come up some witty sayings or enlightening insight to keep my three readers content. Nonetheless, I’ve posted my collection of trick photos to the Fun Stuff page.
New music added

Ok, it’s not really “new” music, since it was recorded 5-10 years ago, and it’s not really “added”, since it’s been out there for while, but this is the official announcement. I’ve added some Music to the Fun Stuff page. It’s a bunch of recordings made by groups I’ve been in. None of them are going to win a Grammy, but they were all a good time to record.

A few MORE years back, in 1997, Brad, Dave, Eric and I used my parents’ old VHS camcorder to do some stop-motion animation with my transformers over summer break from college. Tonight I put that part of that video to music, and here it is! See “Transformers Dance Video” on the Fun Stuff page. I hope you find it half as amusing as I do!
By the way, there are a couple of “inside jokes” in the video, so if something doesn’t make sense, don’t sweat it!
New Transformers animations

A few years back, after the Christmas party here at the house, a few friends and I stayed up late playing with my old toys. We made a short stop-motion animation using our friends the Autobots and Decepticons. See the results on the Fun Stuff page.
